Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary


Spread across a massive 390 sq. km, the Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the south-eastern part of Tripura. The sanctuary is home to a wide range of animal and bird species such as Phayre’s leaf monkey, Asian Elephant, sambar, water buffalo, wild goat and several migratory birds. It is also home to various species of reptiles. There is a large water reservoir spread across an area of 300 sq. km near the sanctuary, which is used for water storage.

Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary


A paradise for nature lovers and photographers, Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary in Tripura is among the most popular tourist destinations in town. It covers an area of only 0.86 sq. km and is situated in the Dharmanagar Forest Sub Division. Considered a natural heritage spot, Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary was originally a forest. It was later converted into a sanctuary to protect its inhabitants. Rich in flora and fauna, the wildlife sanctuary is home to a wide variety of medicinal plants and reptiles as well.

Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary


Measuring about 19 sq. km, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1987. It is located in Bishalgarh, at an approximate distance of 25 km from the city centre. It is a famous hub for migratory birds, making it one of the best spots for nature lovers. The wildlife sanctuary is home to a wide range of interesting bird species such as Asian openbill stork, white ibis and whistling teal. Some of the animal species that you can spot here are slow loris, Rhesus macaque, capped langur and dusky leaf monkey, among others. Owing to the large variety of animal and plant species, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit tourist destination for all wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.

Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary


Established in 1988, spread across an area of 163 sq. km, Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary houses both tropical semi-evergreen and mixed deciduous forests. The sanctuary also has many patches of virgin forests that are rich in rare vegetation, serving as the perfect place for nature enthusiasts. It is dotted with about 230 tree species, 400 herbs, 110 shrubs and 150 climbers. Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary is home to several water bodies and perennial water rivulets. Some of the prominent fauna species at the sanctuary include hoolock gibbon, Indian bison and golden langur. Visitors can also spot a variety of resident and migratory birds at the sanctuary!
