Places to See in Shillong

Elephant Falls

One of the most popular tourist spots in Shillong, the Elephant Falls is a beautiful three-tier waterfall that descends through a dell of fern-covered rocks. It gets its name from the Elephant-like stone at its foot. Locally, it is called Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew which translates to "Three-Step Waterfall". It is a perfect spot for photography as well.

Shillong Peak

The Shillong Peak stands massively at a height of 6449 ft and 1965 metres above sea level. The highest point in the city, the Shillong Peak offers a breathtaking bird's eye view of the city. From this point, one can also enjoy the view of waterfalls and the lush green scenery around. It is a beautiful picnic spot as well.

Ward's Lake

Ward's Lake also Pollock's Lake is an artificial lake that was built in 1894. The lake, surrounded by pines, orchids and lush greenery is a nature lover's delight. Enjoy boating and watch the swim in the placid waters as you visit Wards Lake, a popular tourist spot in shillong.

Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake, also known as Badapani, is a reservoir located 15 kilometres to the north of Shillong. Created by constructing a dam on the Umiam river in the early 1960's, the lake is spread over 220 square kilometres.A photographer’s and nature lover’s delight, the Umiam lake is surrounded by mountains and lush greenery all around. There are several restaurants and cafes near the lake where you can spend your time. You can also enjoy boating here.

Don Bosco Cathedral

The Don Bosco Cathedral is a spectacular example of Gothic architecture. Connect to the history of Shillong as you visit this church dating back to 1913. One of the oldest churches in the city, this is a must visit tourist spot in Shillong. 

Seven Sisters Falls

Seven sister falls is located on the Guwahati- Lachung highway. As the name suggests it has seven different waterfalls lined up side by side on a cliff. The best time to visit this place is after the rainy season.
